How many of you have eaten Subway on campus?

Well approximately 8/10 Americans report eating at fast-food restaurants at least monthly, with almost half saying they eat fast food at least once weekly. Only 4% say they never eat at fast-food restaurants. Pretty much everyone knows fast food is significantly unhealthy, but why do they have such a big demand? Well they do have a big demand but the truth is that their demand has decreased 3% in mc Donald’s and 1.8% in subway since 2006

They have been penalized by factors that had nothing to do with the food they serve.

According to the prestigious business magazine The Wealthiest. 36 Out of 40 of the world’s poorest countries, export food to the USA. Why? Because the workforce is way cheaper. McDonald’s and Burger King have been accused several times of animal abuse in the farms where produce their food. And are two of the many US corporations using poisons to destroy large areas of Central and South American rainforest to create artificial farms to be sent back to the States as burgers and pet food, and to provide fat-food packaging materials.

I found interesting the fact that even though Subway advertises pretty much everything that involves the franchise, Subway doesn’t say a word about the ingredients it uses in its food. Sure, Subway’s veggies are healthy for you, but there is a big problem with their bread. When you order wheat bread at Subway, you aren’t getting whole-wheat bread. It is enriched. This means that the wheat stalk has been removed and processed, making it much cheaper to mass produce. This type of wheat bread has essentially the same properties as white bread. White, enriched, or processed bread increases your obesity risk and causes your blood sugar level to spike, giving you a quick burst of energy followed by a crash. In Subway, as in all big multinationals, they mostly care about profit rather that the customer’s health.

Peter Buck, one of the two cofounders of Subway, said in his first interview in the late 80s when they only had a couple of restaurants, that the true essence of subway was the passion and heart they put on each sub.
