Dave Ramsey’s company is facing a federal lawsuit (in March of 2021), by Caitlin O’Connor, a former administrative assistant of Ramsey’s Solutions before being fired last June. According to Ms. O’Connor she was fired after requesting for maternity leave(being pregnant), which caused a lot of controversy, the defense attorney of Ramsey’s Solutions states that she was fired due to violating a ‘righteous living policy’ for having premarital sex. Ramsey states, “We have a moral code of conduct at our office. I fire people if they have extramarital affairs.” For a little background Ramsey’s Solutions is a company based in Tennessee and it is an “at will” state, meaning employers are allowed to fire employees for any reason, as long as it is not discriminatory, or retaliatory. And they have previously fired eight employees in the past five years for the same issue, and five of them were males.
Should Dave Ramsey have fired Caitlin O’Connor?
Would this be considered discriminatory or retaliatory?(because O’Connor asked for maternity leave)
Is premarital sex a violation of a “righteous living” policy?
Does firing Caitlin O’Connor break the Tennessee “at will” practice of firing employees?
