Airlines are starting to disallow the transportation of big game trophies. United and AC are the newest additions to the list that already contains American and Delta. These airlines are refusing to allow the transportation of exotic animals such as lions, leopards, elephants, rhinoceroses, and buffalos.
The bans have come after the killing on an Africa lion, Cecil, which sparked an uproar in the media. The airlines have noted that the transportation of these animals has been infrequent, but will ensure that no such action will occur in the future.
One opposer of these bans is the Dallas Safari Club. DSC states that legal trophy hunting “is a conservation tool that sustains and enhances”. The DSC has recently auctioned a safari hunt for the endangered black rhino for $350,000. The DSC said the funds would be used for conservation.
